Sri Ahobila Math was established in the year 1398 at Ahobilam by the first Jeeyar Sri Adivan Sathakopa Yateendra Mahadesikan, as ordained by none other than Lord Lakshmi Nrusimhan Himself. Lord Lakshmi Nrusimhan appeared in a dream to one Sri Kidambi Srinivasacharya, a young Brahmachari of 20 years and invited him to Ahobilam. On reaching Ahobilam the Lord appeared before Sri Srinivasacharya as a sanyasi, imparted ‘Sri Nrusimhan Preshamantram’ and initiated him to ascetic order with the distinctive name Sathakopa Yatheendra Mahadesikan. When Sri Sathakopa Jeer was awe-struck and overwhelmed with bhakthi and trance, a celestial voice asked him to take with him any one of the nine Divya moorthis from Ahobila Kshetram and ordained him to wander throughout India as a Sage and propagate the Visishtadvaita School of philosophy and to be the custodian of Ahobilam temples.
